A Little Background on CorePower

What is CorePower? It's from the mind of a David I. Lehn. He was sick of typing crib.bevc.blacksburg.va.us and after much debate settled on corepower.com as a domain. Dave had been calling his fake company Digital Noise Productions and was too slow to register it with InterNIC. So some other folks own digitalnoise.com. Oh well... now his company is CorePower.

CorePower was originally hosted on the network of the Bell Atlantic and BEV Electronic Village project. This made sunny Blacksburg, VA the most wired town in the USA for some time. Now it's not but the net is still around. Some laws got in the way and now service has been turned over to the folks at VTACS. They at least have a phone number!

CorePower has a 10Mb ethernet line to the internet. It's shared with the rest of the apartment complex but still blows away other net access options for a private residence.

With a domain and some virtual hosting a whole bunch of virtual web sites are being set up just for kicks. Crib (the actual machine) is a great firewall for use residents too. And it's great for some technology experiments when we get the time.

Finally, it should be noted that the Crib resides in sunny Blacksburg, VA. The Crib is the abode of some humble Virginia Tech Hokies, as well as a safehouse for the virtues of laziness, slackdom, and alcohol consumption.

For historic reference on hardware behind Crib:
